Embryo Pooling (Embryo Banking) is a strategic approach that aims to increase the number of healthy embryos available for transfer - especially for women with low ovarian reserve (poor responders) - advanced age or couples who obtained few embryos in previous IVF attempts. The main purpose of this method is to freeze and accumulate embryos from one or more ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval (OPU) cycles - then perform genetic screening (PGT-A/PGS) or PGD on the accumulated embryos or directly select the highest quality ones for transfer.

At Gynolife IVF Center the Embryo Pooling process is carefully planned according to each couple individual situation. After the first ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval the resulting embryos are typically frozen (vitrified) at the blastocyst stage (day 5 or 6). After the patient body has rested a second (or if necessary additional) stimulation and egg retrieval cycle is initiated. Embryos from this cycle are also frozen in the same way. Once a sufficient number of embryos have been accumulated all embryos can be thawed simultaneously for Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT-A) or Diagnosis (PGD) biopsy or the morphologically best ones can be selected for transfer. This way more embryos and potentially healthier options become available for a single transfer.
