Single gene disorders are hereditary conditions caused by a mutation in a single gene. These disorders can be passed from parents to children through specific inheritance patterns (autosomal recessive - autosomal dominant - X-linked). If a couple carries a specific single gene disorder or one parent has the condition there is a risk of the disease appearing in their children. At Gynolife IVF Center we offer the most current scientific approaches to manage these genetic risks and ensure the continuation of healthy generations.

PGT-M (Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Monogenic disorders) is a revolutionary method born from the combination of IVF technology and genetic science. Through this test embryos are screened for the specific single gene disorder at risk of familial transmission before being placed in the uterus. The primary goal of PGT-M is to identify genetically healthy embryos and prevent the disease from being passed to the next generation.

The PGT-M process at Gynolife IVF Center involves genetic counseling and custom test development followed by standard IVF/ICSI treatment. Embryos are developed to the blastocyst stage and a trophectoderm biopsy is performed. The cells are analyzed using the pre-established PGT-M test for the targeted genetic disorder. Embryos confirmed as healthy are selected for transfer to the intended mother uterus. Remaining healthy embryos can be frozen for future use.
