Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS / PGT-A)

At Gynolife IVF Center we offer Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS) - now known as PGT-A (Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy) - to maximize IVF success rates and increase the chance of a healthy pregnancy. PGS/PGT-A is a comprehensive genetic screening test that checks whether the chromosome numbers of embryos created through IVF are normal before they are transferred to the uterus. Only chromosomally healthy (euploid) embryos are selected for transfer.

Chromosomal abnormalities (aneuploidy) in embryos are one of the most important causes of failed implantation - miscarriage and babies born with genetic conditions such as Down syndrome. The risk of aneuploidy increases particularly in women of advanced maternal age - couples with recurrent IVF failures or recurrent pregnancy losses. PGS/PGT-A significantly reduces these risks and improves the likelihood of achieving a healthy pregnancy.

At Gynolife IVF Center the PGS/PGT-A process begins with standard IVF/ICSI treatment. Embryos are developed in the laboratory and when they reach the blastocyst stage (usually day 5 or 6) a few cells are carefully biopsied without harming the embryo. These cells are screened using the most advanced genetic analysis technologies (such as NGS - Next Generation Sequencing) for all 24 chromosomes. Embryos with normal chromosomal structure (euploid) are then transferred to the intended mother uterus.
